3. 6:13-20 UNUSUAL APPLICATION OF ABRAHAMIC COVENANT: MELCHIZEDEK

a. 6:13-14 UNUSUAL IMPORTANCE OF GOD TAKING OATH OF HIMSELF

having become a high priest unto the age after the order of Melchizedek.

NOTE: According to the Numeric Paragraphing of the Greek New Testament discovered by Ivan Panin, the book of Hebrews has 18 paragraphs, but no equivalent chapter divisions.

The fifth paragraph contains the subject that we are considering in this section. Also, Panin discovered that out of the 66 books of the Bible, there are 33 writers that can be identified, and of the 27 books of the New Testament, 14 are written by the apostle Paul, including the book of Hebrews.

I have linked the tribe of Simeon with this section because of the “Doctrine of Baptisms” as mentioned in Hebrews 6:2 and 4. There are 3 baptisms for believers in a doctrinal sense in the New Testament. At regeneration, the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the Body of Christ; next, human agency baptizes us into water to identify us with the death and resurrection of Christ. It is not a washing. Then Jesus takes the believer according to John the Baptist, and baptizes us into the Holy Spirit. Three elements, three baptizers – but the same candidates in each case. Dr. J. Edwin Orr, Revivalist from Belfast, Ireland – loved to use these analogies. He added – “If the believer is like a cup placed in a sink with a stopper; and then it is filled with water – that is a picture of salvation. But if it remains in the sink and the tap is left on to fill the sink with water – then the cup is submerged inside and out with water. Then we see how we can have Christ in us – and at the same time we also are then in Christ – intimately, and controlled by Him – because we have fully accepted His Lordship as well as His Saviorhood.

The seven Foundation Truths of Hebrews 6:1-2 are the “milk of the Word” -- and are for babes. They are the foundations for going on in the Christian Life. They are not to be relaid again and again – but built upon! The other 13 Word Studies in this series – are the building blocks that we then use. The Apex built upon the Foundations of this passage we reach in the Book of Ephesians. Here we find 3 marvelous Word Studies: the 7 unities of Ephesians 4:4-6; the 5-fold ministries of 4:11-12; and the armor of God in 6:14-20.

With this Interlinear presentation, we will supply an 8-fold Outline of the Book of Hebrews, plus the 7 Foundation Truths of Hebrews 6:1-2 in Greek Word Study form.

To see Simeon in this context can be helpful. His name means “Hearing,” which reminds us of the Holy Spirit, who like Jesus on earth – only speaks what He “hears”. We can be the same.

Read “Rees Howells, Intercessor” by Norman P. Grubb to see a living illustration of what it is like to be filled and possessed by the Holy Spirit.

Thanks to all of you who are praying not only for these 14 Word Studies to be completed in the context of their part in the Interlinear Greek New Testament – but also for the full Interlinear Greek New Testament to appear on our Website, with key articles from our Archives.

Pray also for my grandson Keelan Long who is serving as my “WebMaster,” who is getting close to bringing forth an entirely new Website to meet the needs for all of the above. - J.A.W.
